Biomedical Training Exercise Refinement

Picture
Picture
Collaborating with Duke University’s biomedical engineering team, we provided visual solutions to health care issues concerning other developing nations. Through research and creative application, we designed a system of instructional materials that depict the repair and maintenance process for medical equipment in Rwanda.

We started the process by interviewing multiple people involved in the biomedical assistant training program as well as a designer at IKEA, who described the process of creating illustrations and instructions for assembling IKEA products. Using the original exercise instructions, we then re-enacted the exercises and filmed the process. We developed a series of sketches based on frames from the re-enactment, followed by design refinement phases. We then developed a final storyboard, which was translated into the final product, a simple HTML site that included each step of the exercise with still frames (or simple animations where useful) and task descriptions.
